Watch Metallica Invite 13-Year-Old Birthday Boy On Stage To Play Drums
A kid at Metallica‘s show in Amsterdam got pretty much the best birthday present ever when he got to play drums with the metal legends.
During the show, Metallica invited a young fan named Evan, who’d just turned 13, on stage to sit behind Lars Ulrich‘s drum set.
“Oh god, Lars shrunk,” frontman James Hetfield joked as he looked back at Evan. “They put Lars in the wash. Told them not to put him in the dryer.”
Evan then got to play the intro to “Seek and Destroy” before Ulrich hopped back on the kit, which you can watch via Metallica’s social media.
The lucky fan also posted photos from his onstage adventure on his own Instagram.
“To play drums in front of 68,000 people with my [heroes] my favorite band of all time was just the best thing ever and to top it all off it was my bday!!” he wrote.
Metallica’s European tour continues Thursday in Cologne, Germany. They’ll be back in the U.S. this September to play two orchestra-accompanied shows in San Francisco to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1999 live album S&M.
